Rolling With The Punches

One of the big challenges of being self reliant is all of the problems the outside world throws at you.  Just when you start making progress a curve ball is thrown your way.  In the United States you have to have a source of income. That is just a given fact. This means that most of us have to have some form of employment. Changes of employment are just part of life. In the past year I have faced three changes in my employment situation. At the first of the year I have an 8 hour, five day a week job. This enabled me to do my writing, videos and more. Well with a corporate decision that changed in one week. My team went to 10 hour shifts. This caused me some major issues on being able to work on my passion. My passion is this blog, my videos, and hopefully teaching as many people as possible.

This didn't last very long. I was transferred to another department. This department was having problems. I don't mind being a problem solver. This new position required quite a bit of overtime. Since changing departments there has not been a single week where I have not had a good bit of overtime. In fact one week I worked 76 hours. Needless to say while working that schedule, getting any content at all out was a real challenge. I love making content for you my friends.

Well, I have been offered and I have accepted another position. In this position I will be back to 5 days a week and 8 hours a day. I hope this will open up the time that is needed to begin producing content.

Don't get me wrong. I know that the challenges that I have been facing are nothing compared to some. I have been through a lot tougher times. I am convinced that once you find your passion, everything will try to get in the way of fulfilling that desire.

Too many times we sacrifice our passions for the illusion of security. I for one believe that we should take care of our responsibility, but at the same time we should go after our dreams. Rolling with the punches is just part of the deal. Work toward your passions as I work toward mine.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I would love to hear about your dreams.

Homestead Blog Hop #46

Homestead Blog Hop every Wednesday featuring real food recipes, natural health remedies, DIY, crafts, Gardening Tips, and more...

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

The past couple of weeks have been tough around here. School has started back and with that high school football or around our house band season. Our youngest played at her first football game this past weekend. It was exciting for all of us, but going straight after work was tough. My ankle decided to give me some fits this past weekend. I broke my ankle in five places several years ago. I have done really well so far, but I finally got so bad that I went to the doctor. He gave me a shot of cortisone in the joint. I am hoping it helps. In just a few years he is wanting to fuse my ankle. I have to get as much done as I can, while I can. You will hear more about that later.

Now on to the hop... Homestead Blog Hop will take place every Wednesday and is for all things homesteading: real food recipes, farm animals, crafts, DIY, how-to's, gardening, anything from-scratch, natural home/health, self-sufficiency, self-reliance, natural remedies, essential oils, & more! Basically anything related to homesteading.

Homestead Blog Hop #44

Homestead Blog Hop every Wednesday featuring real food recipes, natural health remedies, DIY, crafts, Gardening Tips, and more...

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

This year has been interesting. We had a fairly wet spring, not as bad as some of our friends further north, but we were delayed in planting our garden. Even after our garden was in, we were still getting a good bit of rain. Then it was like someone turned the spigot off, it turned really dry. The heat has been another issue this year for us. We have had heat indexes in excess of 105 degrees more this year than any I can remember and I take notice of things like that.

Rain started this weekend and has not let up. The temperature is much more bearable, and the plants really needed it. I am already seeing the signs of the approaching fall and I am ready for it. If you would like to know more about the signs people have used to predict weather I invite you to check out this post.

Some would call if folklore, I call it observation. Watching the signs will give you a heads up on what the weather will be like.
