Front Porch Friday #14

Last week the hop went live on Christmas day, as a result we only had one post shared. I really didn't thing about that. I wasn't online either and if I don't do my daily online chores, I very rarely get back to the things that have passed. I also promised that I would include two features this week. 

Feature from week before last. Pallet Fence by Morning Chores. I have looked into doing this and am still considering it, I have found the pallets I want to use, but can only get maybe two a month (I am pretty picky, my wife wants it cute) and they aren't free. 

The featured post from last week was What to do with Your Christmas Ham Bone by Oak Hill Homestead. We always save our ham bone and use it in a big old pot of beans.

Front Porch Friday #8

Welcome to Front Porch Friday!

 

We just experienced some interesting storms. Just south of us there was some straight wind damage. The power is still out in some of these areas. Each time something like this happens it brings back to my mind the importance of having a blackout kit.

Now that the storms have passed we will be seeing our coldest temperatures of the season so far. We have had patchy frost, but after this weekend we will not only see a true killing frost, but also our first hard freeze. This will be perfect for some time in the deer stand. I hope this find you well. I always enjoy hearing from all of you.

Front Porch Friday #7

Welcome to Front Porch Friday!

 

This weekend we will be going to the Veteran's Day Parade. It was supposed to be last weekend, but was postponed due to rain. This will be my first parade where we now live. I have been told that this parade will be small. This is sad. As much as I cannot stand some of the things that our government does, I have nothing but respect for the men and women who have served this country. Both of my grandfathers served during World War II and I have a great grandfather that served in World War I. I myself served during peace time. The men and women who take the oath to uphold the Constitution and defend it against all enemies both foreign and domestic do so out of a sense of duty, not for any reason that could be considered nefarious.

The Rural Roundtable is shaping up nicely. We now have experts in several areas of preparedness and homesteading that will take your questions. These questions will be answered on the podcast. Look for more information about each of the members of the Roundtable to come out soon. One of the members is my co-host for this blog hop. Katey Kautz will be taking questions in regards to essential oils. So send me your questions. 



Gregg's pick this week is I Have a Gun! I Don't Need Anything Else! by Living Life in Rural Iowa. This post reminds me of too many people. I am glad to see several folks think the way I do.

Front Porch Friday #5

Welcome to Front Porch Friday!

 

This weekend I will be scouting out my deer hunting locations. I am hoping to put at least two in the freezer. My wife is really excited about the possibilities of having homemade jerky (guys I know, she is awesome like that). One of my goals is to produce or harvest 100% of our families meat within the next two years. This would greatly increase our sufficiency.

Front Porch Friday #4

Welcome to Front Porch Friday!

 

We have had our first frost of the season. That is always welcome for me. I really don't like to hunt anything with fur before we have a frost. Squirrels and rabbits commonly have what we call wolf worms in them before the first good frost. Wolf worms are a parasite that are common in many animals. They really don't damage much meat and it is safe to eat an animal that has had wolf worms after you cut out the affected area, but when you are having a difficult time getting your family to eat wild game anyway, you really don't want something that will turn them against it completely.



Gregg's pick this week is New Shower by Early Bird Farm. It is always encouraging to see people start from scratch and build the life they want.

Front Porch Friday #2

 Welcome to Front Porch Friday!

 

 This week has been fairly interesting. I have been fighting sinus problems for a couple of weeks and am finally feeling a little better. I went with the wife and youngest daughter shopping and realized that I just do not fit in with modern culture in any way. I am going to need a new pair of pants and thought I would get some cargo pants instead of jeans. Well guess what? They don't make my size. When I get the waist right the length is too short. If I go to a size where the length is right, the waist swallows me whole. I guess this is some of what many ladies go through, but I refuse to shop for very long. I will find some online, hopefully.

I am looking forward to reading some great content this week from bloggers all around.
